And Tyler. You pick who's who.

Sun, ocean, sky

Sure beats the shit out of the staff cafeteria as a lunchtime locale.

Dave introduced us to Quinoa, a tasty gluten-free alternative to pasta. Fried up into patties with an array of fresh ingredients and piled into a wrap, could you ask for a tastier midday meal for a day like this?

Fish & Risotto

A wizard in the control room and the kitchen, Dave (eventually fed up with our “whatever-goes-with-tabasco-sauce” approach to culinary creations) conjures up a magnificent meal of fresh, lightly-battered Raglan-caught fish, risotto, and salad. Magnificent. Chur.

Sun at last!

Welcome to Raglan

Hi, we’re Battle Circus – a band from Auckland, New Zealand.

Two years ago we recorded an EP, ‘The Half-Light Symphony’ at several studios in and around Auckland. It was great. We had a ball and came away with a record we really liked, but when it came time to look ahead to recording our debut album, decided we wanted to do things a little differently. Some good friends of ours, Decortica, last year discovered a barn-turned-beach-house in Raglan, on the rugged west coast of New Zealand’s North Island, and recorded a killer album there. They came back ecstatic about the experience, and it sounded like the perfect way for us to do things this time around.

So here we are, once again with Dave Holmes producing, spending the next three weeks recording the album that has been five years in the making. Bass in the bedroom, keys in the kitchen, guitars on the mezzanine – living with the songs every waking moment, day in and day out.

And as part of this process, we’d like to share the experience of recording the album with you all. We’ll be posting updates, photos, videos and online streams of consciousness daily, and we welcome you to write back, ask questions, give us advice, or just share what’s on your mind.

The marvellous invention that is Twitter (and don’t forget Twitpic) will no doubt be abuzz each day also, so be sure to keep checking back for regular goings on from the studio.

Until then,

Marcel, Yvonne, Ryan, Jaimz
